Gujarat govt allocates 30,689 MCFT Narmada water to North Gujarat, Saurashtra

Gandhinagar: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has decided to allocate 30,689 MCFT of Narmada water to the North Gujarat and Saurashtra regions by June 30, 2025, the Gujarat government announced today.

According to the official statement, this farmer-friendly decision was taken in response to representations made by farmers and leaders from North Gujarat and Saurashtra. Accordingly, 14,539 MCFT of Narmada water will be allocated to North Gujarat and 16,150 MCFT to Saurashtra.

This water will be supplied for supplementary irrigation and drinking purposes through the Narmada main canal-based lift pipeline to over 950 ponds in North Gujarat, and through the Sujalam Sufalam Spreading Canal. Additionally, Narmada water will be supplied to 243 ponds and 1,820 check dams in the Saurashtra region.

As a result of the Chief Minister’s decision, more than 60,000 acres of cultivable land in North Gujarat and Saurashtra will benefit from Narmada water for irrigation. DeshGujarat
