PM Modi to virtually inaugurate 18 Amrit Bharat railway stations in Gujarat on May 22

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate 103 railway stations across India on Thursday, May 22, that have been revamped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Among these, 18 stations in Gujarat will also be inaugurated virtually by PM Modi. These include stations at Uttran, Kosamba Junction, Karamsad, Dakor, Derol, Samakhiali Junction, Hapa, Kanalus Junction, Jamwanthali, Morbi, Mithapur, Okha, Jamjodhpur, Limbdi, Palitana, Sihor Junction, Rajula Junction, and Mahuva.

These stations, developed at a cost exceeding ₹160 crore, reflect a blend of aesthetics, convenience, and culture. Each station showcases glimpses of Gujarat’s folk art, traditions, and cultural heritage. Of the 1,300+ stations being developed nationwide under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 103 have been completed and will be inaugurated this week.

The upgraded stations feature grand entry gates, high-mast lighting, modern waiting halls, ticket counters, upgraded toilets, and accessible ramps for persons with disabilities. Platform shelters, coach indication systems, and digital information displays have also been installed. All facilities have been designed to be inclusive and accessible.

Highlights of Some Revamped Stations

Dakor station, located in Kheda district, has been transformed into a modern and inclusive transit point. A prominent new porch provides passengers with a shaded, structured area for pick-up and drop-off. A statue of Lord Krishna and murals have been beautifully integrated into the station premises to reflect the city’s spiritual identity.

Located in Anand district, Karamsad, the birthplace of India’s Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, holds a place of national pride. The station building has been redesigned into a contemporary and aesthetically pleasing structure. A heritage-inspired porch at the entrance offers a shaded and welcoming space for passengers.

Palitana railway station, in Bhavnagar district, is not just a transit hub but serves as the historic gateway to one of India’s most revered pilgrimage sites—the Palitana Temples. Major upgrades include resurfacing and extending the platform.

Samakhiali Junction, in Kutch district—a vital gateway for trade, culture, and connectivity—now features architectural elements inspired by traditional mud art.

The upgraded Sihor Junction station in Bhavnagar district begins its transformation right from the entry point, offering a grand entrance and a shaded pick-up/drop-off zone.

Built in 1935, Morbi railway station has long stood as a symbol of the city’s architectural beauty and industrial legacy. Globally known for its tile manufacturing industry, heritage-style tiles now adorn the waiting hall and concourse. The makeover also includes platform resurfacing, roof repairs, building restoration, and vibrant artwork that celebrates Morbi’s cultural identity.
