Dholera: Tata Group, which is building its semiconductor chip fabrication plant at Dholera, has requested an additional 80 acres of land from the Gujarat government to expand the facility, according to reliable sources familiar with the development. The company, through its subsidiary Tata Electronics, is currently constructing the plant on 20 acres of land already allocated by the state government.
The additional land will be used for mixed-use development, including residential facilities for the plant’s 3,000 to 3,500 employees. Sources indicate that approximately 3,000 studio apartments will be built, catering to both Tata Electronics employees and those working for raw material suppliers to the chip fabrication plant. A large shopping complex with entertainment and dining options will also be constructed on the new land, alongside sports and other amenities.
The Gujarat government has reportedly provided a Letter of Support to Tata Electronics, committing to allocate a total of 163 acres for the project, with an additional 63 acres available for future expansion if needed. The initial 20 acres have already been allocated.
The central government, under its India Semiconductor Mission, had initially approved the Tata Group’s Dholera semiconductor plant on February 29, 2024. The plant is expected to be operational by 2027 and will generate approximately 2,000 jobs. The total investment in the project is estimated at ₹91,000 crore. The current land allocation from the government is valued at ₹200 crore, with an additional ₹15,710 crore earmarked for plant construction, related infrastructure, and IT.
