Ahmedabad: Gujarat ranks second in terms of expenditure under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) as of March 1, 2025, according to the Union Government.

The state incurred an expenditure of ₹14,922.13 crore, with over 65.05 lakh hospital admissions recorded as of March 1st. Andhra Pradesh was the only state to spend more than Gujarat, at ₹17,787.80 crore.

Meanwhile, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) dashboard indicates that the most common procedures funded in Gujarat include haemodialysis, coronary angioplasty, cancer treatment, chemotherapy, and total knee replacements (TKR).

In terms of district-wise admissions, since the scheme’s inception, Ahmedabad has recorded 4.92 lakh admissions, followed by Rajkot (2.78 lakh), Surat (2.28 lakh), and Vadodara (2.26 lakh).

Data presented in the Lok Sabha by Union Health Minister JP Nadda also revealed that Gujarat ranks second in per-patient expenditure under PM-JAY. The state recorded 65.05 lakh admissions, incurring an expenditure of ₹14,992 crore—averaging ₹22,937 per patient.

However, in terms of per-patient expenditure, Maharashtra led with ₹23,974 per patient, spending ₹6,764 crore on 28.21 lakh patients, while Andhra Pradesh followed Gujarat with ₹22,472 per patient. The national average expenditure under PM-JAY stood at ₹14,923, with Tamil Nadu recording the lowest at ₹7,417. DeshGujarat
