Himatnagar: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has submitted a memorandum to the Collector and Superintendent of Police of Sabarkantha district, demanding action against mosques that they allege are violating a Supreme Court order regarding noise pollution. The VHP is calling for a ban on the use of loudspeakers for the ‘azaan’ (call to prayer) at mosques in the district, particularly in Himatnagar.

According to the VHP’s memorandum, a Supreme Court order issued on July 18, 2005, by a bench headed by Justice Bhan, in case number 733, prohibits noise levels exceeding 10 decibels. Despite this, the VHP claims that mosques in Himatnagar and other parts of Sabarkantha district continue to use loudspeakers at high volumes during prayer times, causing significant disturbance to residents.

The VHP argues that the loud ‘azaan’ disrupts the daily lives of people living near these religious sites, including the elderly, students, and those in educational institutions. They claim that the noise pollution leads to mental distress and violates the Supreme Court’s order.

The memorandum urges the district administration and police to take strict action against those who are disregarding the Supreme Court’s directives. The VHP has demanded an immediate ban on the use of loudspeakers at mosques for the call to prayer and called for legal measures against those responsible.
