144 Gujarat fishermen 1172 boats in Pakistan’s custody: Govt

Gandhinagar: A total of 144 Gujarat fishermen are in Pakistani jails as of 31st January 2025. 432 Gujarat fishermen were released from Pakistani jails in one-year period from 1st February 2023 to 21st January 2024. After that, during the following year, no fishermen were released.
However, the arrests of Gujarat fishermen by Pakistan have drastically decreased. In the one-year period from 1st February 2023 to 31st January 2024, only 9 fishermen were arrested by Pakistan, while in the subsequent one-year period, 13 Gujarat fishermen were arrested.
These details were shared by the Gujarat government today in the state assembly in response to a question asked by a Congress MLA.
The state government, in a separate reply, stated that 144 fishermen and 1,173 boats from Gujarat are in Pakistan’s custody. In the last two years (entire 2023 and 2024), 22 fishermen and 4 boats were captured by Pakistan. Over the last two years, Pakistan released 432 fishermen, but not a single boat was released.
