Gandhinagar: Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel stated in the State Assembly that to provide financial support to farmers facing crop losses due to natural disasters such as unseasonal rains, excessive rainfall, drought, and cyclones, the state government, in addition to agricultural input assistance, also provides additional top-up assistance from the State Fund. This support is extended with a liberal approach, considering the severity of the disaster.
In response to a question from a member in the Legislative Assembly, the Agriculture Minister added that over the past five years, more than ₹12,389 crore has been disbursed to over 99.43 lakh farmers in Gujarat as compensation for crop losses.
He further stated that due to heavy rains during the Kharif 2024 season, crops such as groundnut, cotton, soybean, moong, urad, toor, vegetables, and fodder were damaged in Porbandar district, while groundnut, cotton, soybean, vegetables, fodder, and horticultural crops were affected in Junagadh district. After completing the immediate survey, the state government has disbursed a total of over ₹100 crore in crop loss assistance directly into the bank accounts of 68,229 farmers, including 18,023 from Junagadh district and 50,206 from Porbandar district.
