Ahmedabad Metro Phase-2 to be completed by 2025-end; Surat Metro Project 55% complete: Gujarat FM

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai today announced that Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Rail service will be completed by the end of this year. The Finance Minister said this during his Budget Speech for the financial year 2025-26 while adding that the ongoing metro rail project in Surat is also 55% complete.
Presenting the budget, the state Finance Minister Kanu Desai said, “The expansion of Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar and Surat Metro is underway. Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-2 will be completed by the end of this year, while 55 percent of the Surat Metro Rail project has already been completed. I propose a provision of ₹ 2,730 crore in the budget to ensure that citizens can access fast, reliable and modern rail-based public transport services.”
The FM also announced the the plans for induction of over 2000 new buses to enhance public transport safety and convenience. “For the safety and convenience of citizens using public transport, it is planned to introduce 2,060 new buses in the service of the public. For this purpose, I announce an allocation of ₹ 1,128 crore. This includes 400 Midi buses to provide connectivity to labour migrating from rural to industrial areas as well as provide connectivity in remote areas. the FM further said. DeshGujarat
