Ahmedabad: The rising temperatures across the state have led to a surge in power demand. With only half of the month passed, Gujarat’s peak power demand surged to 23,633 megawatts (MW), marking an 11.22% increase from the 21,248 MW recorded in February 2024, according to data from the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC).
This rise is also consistent with patterns from previous years. Data suggests that peak demand stood at 17,374 MW in February 2022, increased to 19,185 MW in February 2023, 21,248 MW in February 2024, and has now reached 23,633 MW in February 2025. Experts attribute this sharp spike to higher-than-usual temperatures, as an early onset of warmer weather has driven up air-conditioning and refrigeration needs in both residential and commercial sectors.
