Gujarat-based Amul to establish world’s largest curd plant near Kolkata

Anand: The Gujarat-based dairy giant Amul is going to build the world’s largest curd manufacturing plant near Kolkata, West Bengal, with an investment of ₹600 crore. The announcement was made by Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), during the Bengal Global Business Summit in Kolkata on Thursday.

The upcoming plant will have a daily production capacity of 10 lakh kg for curd, mishti doi, yogurt, lassi, and buttermilk. Additionally, it will process and package 15 lakh liters of milk per day, along with ice cream, flavored milk, paneer, ghee, and UHT milk.

The Amul Bengal Dairy plant is being developed at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah, near Kolkata, with an investment of ₹600 crore in two phases. The project is being undertaken by Anand-based Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited, commonly known as Amul Dairy, a GCMMF member.

According to Mehta, the plant will help meet the high demand for curd varieties like tok doi and mishti doi in Bengal. GCMMF is the marketing body behind the Amul brand. DeshGujarat
