Strike call in Porbandar against proposed deep-sea pipeline project

Porbandar: Various local organizations of Kharva community in Porbandar have declared a half-day strike today (December 26) in Porbandar protesting against proposed Jetpur – Gosa deep-sea pipeline. The fishermen had recently oganized an impressive rally as well against this project.
Under the controversial project, a deep-sea pipeline off Porbandar coast is proposed for dumping of polluted water generated at Jetpur based textile industry units. The fishermen of Porbandar opine that such pipeline project would destroy fishing industry as the polluted liquid will harm fishes. The locals argue why Jetpur’s polluted water should be dumped off Porbandar coast! The locals also believe that fishing industry is spinal cord of Porbandar and polluted water from Jetpur would destroy the city and its livelyhood. DeshGujarat
