Trial production at Gujarat’s first Semiconductor chip plant commences

Surat: Union Minister and Navsari Lok Sabha member CR Patil today inaugurated Gujarat’s first secmiconductor plant at Bagumara in Palsana taluka of Surat. The plant has come up with an investment of USD 100 million (Rs. 840 crore) over 3 years in 30,000 square ft area for production of 3 lakh semiconductor chips per day. The plant has been set up by Suchi Semicon which is led by Ashok Mehta( who owns Suchi Industriex which is into textile). In a trial run, 50,000 semiconductor chips lot will be manufactured and sent to America for approval, before start of commercial manufacturing.

The company has applied for the Centre’s incentive under SPECS (Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors) and India Semiconductor Mission. The state government has approved 20 per cent incentives for the plant.

Suchi Semicon co-founder Shetal Mehta said the commercial shipment of the semiconductors will start in the first quarter of next year. He said that the company has a team of 60 people with some of them having vast experience in the semiconductor space. DeshGujarat
