Vadodara MP seeks reversal of toll tax hike at Bharathana toll plaza

Vadodara: Lok Sabha MP Dr. Hemang Joshi has reached out to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, raising concerns over the recent hike in toll tax rates on the Vadodara-Bharuch route. In a letter addressed to the minister, the MP highlighted the financial burden this sudden increase places on daily commuters and requested immediate intervention to revise the toll charges.

The MP wrote in the letter, “Consider reversing or revising the 50% hike in toll charges to a more reasonable amount in line with maintenance requirements rather than revenue generation.”

The MP noted that since November 25, 2024, the return journey toll has risen sharply from ₹155 to ₹230, a 50% hike that has caused widespread discontent among commuters. The issue is further compounded by a new policy that levies additional charges for vehicles crossing the same toll plaza more than twice in a 24-hour period, a practice not enforced earlier. The MP urged Gadkari to reverse the hike, eliminate the additional charges for frequent passes, and ensure transparency in future toll revisions. DeshGujarat
