Surat: Following protests against India in Bangladesh and the burning of Indian-made saris, textile traders in Surat expressed their anger on Thursday. Traders staged a dharna at Millennium Market on Ring Road, while Bajrang Dal members protested at a mall selling products made in Bangladesh.

The traders displayed banners and posters featuring Bangladeshi leaders, condemning the insult to Indian culture and the targeting of minorities in Bangladesh. “Burning Indian saris is an affront to our culture and products. Surat traders are owed Rs 500 crore by Bangladesh, and now our goods are being targeted,” said a textile trader.

Last week, a senior leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) called for a boycott of Indian products. In a symbolic gesture, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi set fire to his wife’s Indian sari while party supporters chanted anti-Indian slogans.

Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal activists protested at a mall on Dumas Road, objecting to the sale of Bangladeshi products, further intensifying the call to protect Indian cultural and business interests. DeshGujarat
