Ahmedabad: A 23-year-old second-year MBA student from MICA, Priyanshu Jain, died from stab wounds following an alleged altercation in a road rage incident in the Bopal area of the city. Prior to the incident, Jain, who hailed from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, had visited a tailor with his friend to get measurements for a suit in anticipation of upcoming job interviews.
In the FIR filed at the Bopal police station, Jain’s batchmate Prithviraj Parakshitdas Mahapatra stated that he and Priyanshu had visited Maruti Tailor for measurements for the suit and then went to a cafe near Vakilsaheb Bridge and later to a bakery. On their way back to college around 10:30 pm, while waiting at a road turn, a car sped toward them and allegedly came too close. Priyanshu shouted at the car driver, “Why are you driving the car so fast?”
The car then began chasing the duo, who were on their motorcycle, and the driver allegedly asked, “Stop, what were you saying?” After stopping their bike, the confrontation escalated when the driver accused the students of driving on the wrong side of the road and allegedly pushed Jain.
The situation quickly turned violent when the driver pulled out two knives, one in each hand, and attacked Jain. In an attempt to dodge the assault, Jain lost his balance and fell onto the road. The driver then allegedly stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene. Mahapatra attempted to stop passing cars for help, and a woman eventually took Jain to Saraswati Hospital, from where he was referred to Zydus Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The unknown assailant has been charged with murder under Section 103(1) of the BNS and under Section 135 of the Gujarat Police Act for violating orders. The FIR was filed early Monday morning. DeshGujarat
