PSI chasing bootlegger’s car killed in accident in Dasada, Surendranagar

Surendranagar: A sub-inspector working for the State Monitoring Cell lost his life early this morning in an accident near Dasada while he was attempting to apprehend a bootlegger allegedly transporting liquor in a vehicle. During the pursuit, a trailer truck rammed into the car of the policeman, resulting in his immediate death.
According to the information received, State Monitoring Cell Team’s PSI J.M. Pathan, along with two constables, received a tip-off about a vehicle loaded with liquor. After setting up surveillance, the officers were in pursuit of the liquor-laden car at around 2:30 AM when an unknown truck collided with their vehicle on the Patdi-Dasada road. The impact was so severe that PSI Pathan died on the spot, while two other constables sustained injuries.
Following the accident, local residents gathered and assisted in rescuing the injured police personnel, transporting them to Viramgam Hospital for medical treatment. The body of the PSI has also been moved to Viramgam Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
As the situation escalated, higher police officials were dispatched to the scene. A case has been registered at the Dasada police station, and further investigations are underway.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Harsh Sanghvi also took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his condolences and said, “PSI Mr. J.M. Pathan, an aspiring officer of the State Monitoring Cell, sadly died in a road accident while on his way to intercept a suspected vehicle full of liquor on the Dasada-Patdi road in Surendranagar district.”
